Interview Experience - Cardlytics

Mediocreember·

My fiance got laid off on June 17th this year (used to gig at Visa, as a senior data engineer, on a H1-B) and he's been actively interviewing since. He interviewed with this Atlanta based company called Cardlytics, and it was the worst background of his life.

The company interviewed him for over a month, he had 6 stages with them. So many things they did wrong - flunked to enquire his work visa status, kept rescheduling interviews multiple times, and informed him very late into the interview process that he needed to code in Java and Scala (while most interviews are language agnostic).

He managed to clear all 6 rounds (unlearned and learned Java just for this interview, learnt so many new concepts), and he was even offered a job. But they withdrew the offer purely because their immigration crew didn't cooperate with them citing his visa timeline reasons, and that they weren't willing to take the risk of filing his PERM with a little over 2 years on his H1-B left.

Folks with a gig visa - PLEASE NEVER WORK WITH THEM/APPLY FOR ROLES OPENED BY THEM.
Employers - Please be more empathetic. Never depart your candidates hanging.

The recruiter who interviewed him in the first round has been fired since she failed to enquire all information regarding his work status from him (not enough but sure) There may be countless people in the US right now in a state like this. There is such a huge talent pool hunting for work right now. This market is already so brutal, and there are companies not willing to bring on. When will this even conclude?

Good point, they landed away with this because it wasn't an official offer letter given to him. Company is based in Atlanta, he interviewed with the Menlo Park crew, applying for jobs pan USA.

He did communicate his visa status to the stated recruiter in the post, to which her response was "No worries, we can discuss this in the later stages." Not only did she disregard his statement, she didn't communicate this to her higher ups.

Cardlytics and Bridg both are mess. I have worked there and they don’t treat the employees well. The CP team is being run by a bunch of people who have been there for a while, they love their power and attempt to push everyone else out. I would run away from these companies.

Was it a verbal offer or an actual written offer that they rescinded?

But also... communicate any visa issues before doing interviews so you don't waste your time

Atlanta isn't so solid. Try other cities too.

how do you understand recruiter got fired?

Dude, before diminishing the candidate here please go through the rest of the discussion. He was transparent regarding it. He explained it. The recruiter herself treated this as something of modest priority and still decided to proceed with his candidature. Bringing up your visa status over and over again at each stage isn't feasible. Being transparent to one POC in the process is typically enough. This small oversight cost my fiance more than a month of his time. I am trying to highlight unprofessionalism by the org here.

Wow. No remorse over being involved in this? Isn't it kind your job a bit to explain your visa restrictions before you go to onsite and make certain they support? I'm not trying to diminish that your husband got screwed by the org

He was in touch with the senior HR (who this recruiter reported to) for the rest of the interview process, he explained his stage 1 to her. And that's when she informed him that "this is why that recruiter is no longer with us".

Grim situation. Hoping your fiancé finds something nice soon.
