How to move from a App/Prod Support Engineer to a GCP Data Engineer?
Hello Everyone! I have been working as a App/IT/Prod Support Engineer for the past 10 years with experience in Java, Log Analysis tools like Splunk and Dynatrace, ServiceNow, PagerDuty, few DBs like Oracle/SQL. Now I am thinking of moving to a GCP Data Engineer role. So, for the last 9 months, I have been studying about the Distributed Data Architecture systems, PySpark, Python, SQL/BigQuery, Airflow DAG etc. Now I found this DataDriven.io website recently and I have been actively studying important concepts of data engineering here.
In my current project, one of the applications that we support is hosted in GCP environment and it is basically an ETL system that makes use of Cloud Composers, GCS Buckets, Airflow DAGs and BigQuery. They have also used Spark minimally for one of the data processing unit. But the thing is, since I am from the support team, our daily work ends with just re-running the DAG if it fails, re-running a couple of SFTP cron jobs when it fail. That's about it. I didn't get the opportunity to deep dive into it to solve the issues. But I have collected all the information about these systems as much as possible from the confluence.
I am yet to apply for interviews as I am still uncomfortable attending one. I thought of updating my resume saying I have worked in the above mentioned systems, but if they ask me about the major issues I have faced while working on these ETL systems, I don't think I would be able to answer appropriately.
Please provide me tips and guides on how to prepare in a better way to crack the interviews and also overcome my anxiety about attending interviews. Thank you everyone in advance.
