Where to Join (2026)

Data engineers can join the DataExpert.io Community, a server named Data Engineering listed on the Data Engineering Wiki, or Data Engineering Pilipinas on Discord, while DataTalks.Club and Data Engineer Things run on Slack.

Which Discord servers exist for data engineers?

3 Discord servers for data engineers turned up when I opened the listings: the DataExpert.io Community, a server named simply Data Engineering, and Data Engineering Pilipinas. Each is aimed at a different kind of reader, so the choice depends on whether you want events, general chat or a regional group.

The DataExpert.io Community calls itself a space for aspiring and professional data engineers and mentions expert-led sessions and peer support. Its listing says it holds monthly events based on data engineering. It is the one to look at if you want scheduled sessions rather than only chat.

The Data Engineering Wiki lists a Discord server named Data Engineering in its table of communities, next to r/dataengineering and several Slack workspaces. The wiki gives a name and a platform and nothing else, so read the server's rules and channels yourself before relying on it.

Data Engineering Pilipinas describes itself as a PyData group and a community for data engineers, analysts, data scientists, developers and AI and ML engineers who use data tools in the Philippines. It fits a reader who wants local contacts and a local job market.

Sizes change quickly and listings disagree. The DataExpert.io listing shows one member count in its header and a different one in its own description, so this page quotes none. Open the source to see the current figure.

How do you judge a data engineering server before joining?

Read the stated purpose first. A server worth your time says who it is for and what it does, the way the DataExpert.io listing names its audience and its monthly events. A listing with no purpose gives you nothing to hold it to.

Check that the numbers agree with each other. A listing that shows 2 different member counts has stale text somewhere, and stale text on the one page you read before joining suggests nobody tends the rest.

Look at how the community organises itself. DataTalks.Club shows the pattern on Slack: separate channels for engineering questions, career questions, jobs and events, so a question has an obvious home and a job post does not bury a debugging thread. A Discord server with 1 general channel will bury yours.

Take invite links from the community's own page or a maintained directory, and keep your usual caution about links sent in direct messages by people you do not know.

What is a Discord server good for, and where does it stop?

A server is good for questions with a human answer: how a team runs its on-call, what a job title means in another country, which of 2 designs a reader would pick and why. It's also where you hear about events, such as the monthly sessions the DataExpert.io listing describes.

It stops short of checking your work. Nobody in a chat runs your query against edge cases, and advice from a stranger varies in quality and age. For the part of preparation that needs a right or wrong answer, work data pipeline practice problems and read data pipeline interview questions, then bring the cases you got wrong to the server.

If you're planning the whole path, the data engineer roadmap orders what to learn, and a community is most useful once you know what you're stuck on.

How do you ask a question a server will answer?

State what you tried and what happened. A pasted error with the tool and version gets an answer; "my pipeline is slow" gets a question back.

Reduce the problem to the smallest input that still fails. 10 rows that show the bug are easier to help with than a 40 line job and a description of the warehouse.

Post in the channel built for the topic, and say what you found when you solve it. The next reader searching the server learns from the ending.

Where else can you find data engineers online?

The data engineering community guide covers more places to join and ask. For threads and search-friendly answers, read the data engineering Reddit guide, and for a steady feed without chat, see the data engineering newsletters page.

Data engineering Discord FAQ

Is there a data engineering Discord server?+
Yes. The DataExpert.io Community describes itself as a space for aspiring and professional data engineers, Data Engineering Pilipinas serves data engineers in the Philippines, and the Data Engineering Wiki lists a server simply named Data Engineering. Check each one's own page for its current size and rules.
Is there an official r/dataengineering Discord?+
The Data Engineering Wiki lists r/dataengineering and a Discord server named Data Engineering as separate entries in its community table. Its page does not say the 2 are officially linked, so treat the server as an independent community.
Are the best data engineering communities on Discord?+
Not all of them. DataTalks.Club and Data Engineer Things run their discussion on Slack, so a search limited to Discord misses them.
How do I join a data engineering Discord server?+
Open the server's invite link or its listing page and use the join button. Take the link from the community's own page or a maintained directory, and read the rules channel before posting.
Can a Discord server replace practice for interviews?+
No. A server gives you answers from people and a place to ask about a role or a stack. It doesn't run your code against test data or tell you whether a query is correct, so pair it with practice problems.
How do I tell whether a server is worth joining?+
Look for stated purpose, rules, topic channels you can read before joining, and figures that agree with each other. A listing whose member count contradicts its own description is a reason to read before you commit.
02 / Why practice

The candidate who gets the offer

  1. 01

Reading a solution is not the same as writing one

Every engineer who has frozen on a query they had read a dozen times knows the gap. The only preparation that closes it is producing the answer yourself, under time, before the interview does it for you

  2. 02

76% of hiring managers reject on the coding task, not the resume

From HackerRank's 2024 Developer Skills Report. Candidates who look strong on paper still fail the live screen if they haven't done timed, executable practice

  3. 03

System design comes down to the calls you defend out loud

Ingestion, batch vs streaming, the bronze/silver/gold layers, idempotency, backfill and replay. Sketching the pipeline and naming the failure modes is the signal, not the boxes
